Is Perfection Ruling The Day?

Every day! That’s the plan! I rock it out EVERY. DAMN. DAY. You are probably eye rolling right now.. yep I would too!

How can someone have every day be a rock it out day!? Well what I have realized is that I had to let go of one of my biggest faults for this to happen. And that big fault is simply - perfection. Yep! That one piece of my personal character is what would make me feel like a day was an absolute waste. Pointless. Got nothing done. Should’ve stayed in bed. Why try something new?! Why!? Why!? Why!?

I know we have all been there. It happens in many different ways for people - the big areas I see perfection literally sabotage people’s good intentions in are: food choices, workouts, relationships, parenting, and work. Honestly, there are many more that we could add to this list it could go on and on. We have become a society that puts way too much pressure on stuff that is just not relevant and that some people don’t have a chance to get ahead. Heck- some people don’t even start making a change because they say to themselves “well I can’t match up to that expectation.” What they don’t realize at that moment is that person they are using as a mentor did NOT get their in just one day. It took many small steps to get there. Success truly comes from all these small and simple steps not the “In over your head can’t see though the weeds jump!”

When the changes are simple such as-
being able to say to myself “great job on that walk today”- was it a 45 minute Pilates class? Nope! But was I outside? Was there a bit of blue skies? Did I have some great company or did I get some one on one alone time?

When we allow ourselves to put things in perspective and not allow perfection to rule i promise YOU will be a lot less stressed. And living in the DC metro area I can say that any chance to let go of a little stress is a success!

Now don’t get what I am saying confused for being lazy or not caring because that is definitely not the case. If something didn’t go as I had envisioned I look at the situation and try to figure out how to make it better next go around! I also have a few things that I make sure happen. To me these things are just like brushing my teeth.

So, exactly what are the MUST things that I try to get done? This is ME and does not have to be YOU!
  1. Eat at least 80% of my meals as healthy meals. Which for me means always gluten and corn free and I stick to mostly paleo and then ketoish.
  2. I make sure that I move my body! Minimum of 15-20 minutes of purposeful movement. It may just be a walk in the neighborhood.
  3. Finally, I allow myself some thinking time and reflection. Sometimes I write things down and sometimes I don’t. I love journaling but... when the journal becomes something I can’t bear to look at - then it’s time to move on!

I also allow myself the grace to say this week or today I am adding these other things to my MUST happen list.

Try making your own MUST list. What kind of stuff do you have on it? Is it all truly MUST stuff or is it leaning more towards making a list to achieve perfection? Try it out you may surprise yourself!

I believe that trying to achieve perfection is a good mindset. If you want to work hard and achieve perfection, then that is great. I believe that there are people who work hard to make it so that they can be as perfect as they can be. I got to admit, it is not easy, but it is admirable. I hope that people begin to realize what it means. It is not ruining us, it just makes life a bit better.
